It's primary purpose is as an offensive weapon. It will soon replace larger and much slower battleships used as escort vessels in the carrier fleet(s). The other advantage is it has a very shallow draft; therefore it can go place other battleships cannot and can be used by multiple branches of the US Armed Forces. In short, it saves the Pentagon BIG money.
